Bholu

Australian Project Partner
Bholu

Bholu’s homewares designs are brought to life by traditional artisans from rural and urban communities in India. Each piece is individually hand embroidered or handwoven using ancient techniques, giving each product its own unique and original personality and benefits local communities. By using their traditional skills, the artisans gain an income, hence independence and opportunity as well as keeping a traditional craft alive.

In 2008, Bholu won the Australian Telstra Business Award for Social Responsibility for demonstrated leadership and contribution by a business to the environment, people, education or the community. Most recently Bholu was selected as TIME Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Green Designs of 2009.

Bholu is proudly a Fair Trade and Climate Neutral Company and operates with social and environmental responsibility.

Architects Without Frontiers

Australian Project Partner - Volunteer Support
AWF

Architects Without Frontiers Australia (AWF) is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to engage the Australian design professions in pro-bono projects that improve the living conditions of communities in need with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

While conflict, poverty, climate change and social dislocation pose many challenges to communities around the world, they have particularly severe impacts upon the most marginal communities. Unfortunately, 90 per cent of the world’s design resources are utilised by the richest 10 per cent.

AWF is committed to participatory, sustainable and community-focused outcomes as it engages with the architectural and related built-environment professions in providing pro-bono design services and model construction projects for those whose needs are greatest. AWF, through its volunteers and supporters, focuses on developing the capacity of partner organizations and communities thorough project outcomes skills sharing and mutual knowledge sharing.
